Ernie Harwell Continues Fight To Save Tiger Stadium

by Dan Cash

It’s been 9 years since Robert Fick hit the final homerun at Tiger Stadium in Detroit. 9 years since the Tigers cleaned up shop and headed to their new digs at Comerica Park.

As a deadline looms for Ernie Harwell…Tiger Stadium’s left field wall came down Sunday. Harwell is leading the way for what has become the “Old Tiger Stadium Conservancy” in Metro Detroit.

The conservancy has until August 1st to prove it has enough funds to begin phase 1 of preservation on the Stadium. The plan calls for saving the field, a corner of the stadium, a possible museum and the ability to hold Little League games on the field once populated by Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb and Hank Greenberg.
