Joyce And Cabrera Lead Tigers In Royal Drubbing

by Dan Cash

Kansas City--Last week the Detroit Tigers decided…somewhat controversially to keep Matt Joyce with the big league club…while sending fan favorite Clete Thomas down to the minors.

After Monday’s 19-4 clobbering of the Kansas City Royals…it was probably the right call. Joyce went 4-for-6 with 6 RBI’s.

It was Joyce’s 10th homerun of the season. Miguel Cabrera had an even better night finishing 5-for-6 with 2 doubles and 6 RBI’s.

Tigers starter Zach Minor in his first performance in the Tigers starting rotation this season allowed no runs on only 3 hits in 6 innings. The win is especially important considering the Minnesota Twins and Chicago White Sox both lost Monday.

The Tigers enter game 2 of their series with the Royals tonight 5-and-a-half games out of first in the AL Central. Coverage begins tonight at 7:50 on 590 KZO.
