The Kalamazoo Xplosion fell just short last season, falling in the Great Lakes Conference Final of the CIFL playoffs to Port Huron. This season the Xplosion have become the league's best team, continuing their dominance at home, as well as powered to a single loss season overall.
This afternoon Football Enterprises will be sending two teams to Wings Stadium for a shot at a CIFL Championship. For the city of Kalamazoo however it would be much sweeter for the Xplosion to win a title in a time when Kalamazoo teams continue to win championships.
First it was the Kalamazoo Kings in 2005, than the K-Wings in 2006 and now, possibly a 3rd title for what might be called the other leg of the 3-legged professional sports beast in Kalamazoo.
If the Xplosion do pull off a victory this afternoon at Wings Stadium it's not going to be a surprise, in fact it's basically expected.
What it will do however is serve as another reason the city of Kalamazoo and it's surrounding areas continue to be so special. A place where culture blossoms, sports move forward and education continues it's surge to the top.
Win or lose, hosting championships is a win-win for Kalamazoo. Hopefully in the future, it's something that will happen more often.
Cash Prediction: Kalamazoo Xplosion 49 Saginaw Sting 34.
