If you were tired of seeing the Western Michigan Broncos tie Michigan or Cornell in recent years…your troubles are over. The CCHA announced that an NHL style three-player shootout will be instituted in the 2008-2009 hockey season.
If tied after 60 minutes of regulation and overtime the teams will send their top 3 skaters onto the ice for the shootout. The winning team grabs 2 points while the shootout loser will come home with 1.
The CCHA is the first conference in College Hockey to endorse and implement the shootout format.
