It was an interesting morning here in Lincoln, Nebraska. A 7:30 wake-up call had me live on the Ken Lanphear morning show on 106.5 AM WVFM in Kalamazoo to talk WMU-Nebraska before speaking with the local ESPN affilliate in Lincoln.
Than I made my way for the first time within walking distance to Memorial Stadium. This stadium is one of the better venues I have ever seen and in many ways reminds me alot of the construction of the horseshoe in Columbus.
Its completly closed in but it has that same wow that's a big stadium glow that "The Horseshoe" does at Ohio State. At first glance the thing you notice is how open to the public the stadium happens to be. You can either line up or a stadium tour guide weeks in advance...or you can simply take a "self guided" tour throughout the stadium.
They have a nice perch within the seating area in the corner of the end zone where nearlt 24-hours-a-day you can enter a big red NEBRASKA gate and overlook the entire field.
A video tour of the stadium from that angle is below:
I'll guide you on the tour below that:
I spoke with 5 Nebraska fans this morning and to be honest...I have never seen a more knowledgable fan base in my life. Nothing against Bronco fans...but every person I pulled off the street to speak with...knew who Tim Hiller was, knew what he did last season, they knew the defense, they even commented on how the Broncos should have made a bowl game last season.
They knew exactly why the team failed to qualify because of the late game collapses. If you are in Lincoln or on your way to Lincoln do yourself a favor and take the self tour of the stadium.
I'll be blogging all afternoon today as well as Saturday with live shows 6-7ET tonight, 1:30-2:30ET tommorow afternoon on ESPN 1660 and ESPN1660.COM.
More appearences:
3:30PM: Dan Diggler Show On Y-96.5 Country in Kalamazoo.
3:45PM and 4:45PM: The Jay Morris Show on 590 KZO in Kalamazoo.
7:30PM: Chad Daniels Show On Y-96.5 Country in Kalamazoo.
Stay tuned to the blog for all the latest as well as listening to ESPN1660 and ESPN1660.COM for audio and reaction to the season opener from Nebraska fans. I'm also looking for my first sight of Bronco fans in Lincoln because so far...i'm batting .000.
To alert me to your whereabouts in Lincoln or with questions e-mail me at cash@espn1660.com.
