Baltimore--Pitching in front of family and friends Virginia native Justin Verlander was on top of his game Sunday in Baltimore. Verlander came within a single out of a complete game allowing 1 run on 3 hits to improve to 8-9 after beginning the season 2-9.
Marcus Thames added his 19th homerun of the season in the 6th to give the Tigers a 2-1 lead. The story after the game however continued to be about Verlander’s performance.
Even with a 2-2 weekend series the Tigers gained a half game on the Chicago White Sox after the Sox dropped the finale 2 games of their series with the Kansas City Royals. Tonight those very Royals welcome the Tigers into Kauffman Stadium with coverage beginning at 7:50 on 590 KZO.
