WMU's Horn Can Secure Beijing Trip Tonight

by Dan Cash

Last week Western Michigan Bronco Track and Field Star Becky Horn was talking about simply competing at the United States Track and Field Trials in Eugene, Oregon.

Tonight Horn will be one of a rare 12-woman heat to race for a spot on the United States Olympic team. The chance didn't come without some drama though, Horn finished just under 10 seconds behind qualifying for the finals in Saturday's semi-final heat.

That all changed however when coaches protested after Horn became entangled in a tie-up with 4 runners at the 200 meter mark. On WMUBRONCOS.COM Horn said:

"We just got too bunched up," said Horn. "Alice Schmidt got in first and slowed it down; we just got too bunched up. Girls were throwing elbows, trying to get to the outside. It was way too crowded."

She will race tonight with the gun going off at 11:45PM ET. Stay tuned to ESPN 1660 and ESPN1660.com or head to the United States Track and Field Olympic Trials official website.

USA Network begins coverage of the finals at 10PM tonight running through 1AM.
